Congressional Candidate Chris Ahuja Sounds the Alarm on GOP Megabill:        ‘Purposeful Cruelty’ Toward Children, Seniors, Veterans, and Working Americans

“Ripping Away Healthcare and Food from the Vulnerable Is Inexcusable”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Chris Ahuja, candidate for Congress in California’s 32nd District (CD-32), is condemning the House GOP’s proposed budget “megabill,” calling it a “shameful attack on the most vulnerable Americans, especially children, seniors, veterans, and low-income communities.” Ahuja warned the legislation would devastate millions nationwide and over 300,000 residents in CD-32 who rely on food and healthcare programs to survive.*

“This isn’t fiscal responsibility – it’s purposeful cruelty wrapped in red tape,” Ahuja said. “Republicans are pushing a plan that kicks 13.7 million Americans off their health insurance and rips food off the tables of 42 million Americans – including 4 million children – by slashing Medicaid and SNAP benefits, all while expanding tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.”

According to the California Association of Food Banks, approximately 81,300 people in CD-32 receive SNAP benefits, a critical safety net now under direct threat.

“Cancer patients, disabled Americans, working families – these are the people Republicans are targeting while handing billionaires new tax loopholes,” Ahuja continued. “This isn’t policy. It’s a war on the vulnerable, and it is inexcusable.”

The GOP megabill imposes harsh new work-reporting mandates for Medicaid and SNAP recipients. Experts warn these requirements do little to increase employment but are guaranteed to strip health coverage, increase hunger, and push struggling Americans further into debt – disproportionately affecting seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Ahuja also took aim at his opponent, longtime incumbent Brad Sherman, for what he called a “deafening silence” in the face of this attack.

“Where is Brad Sherman? Why isn’t he saying anything?” Ahuja asked. “Our communities deserve a leader who puts people before politics. We don’t need placeholders in Congress – we need a fighter who shows up for the people they represent. Brad is all too often missing in action, and it’s time we hold him accountable.”
